According to reports, X Labs Project, a community-made Call of Duty mod project, has been shut down by Activision.
This news comes shortly after the closure of another significant project, Call of Duty sm2, just five days ago.
Both projects were intended to be freely accessible to all players, but unfortunately, that is no longer the case.
On May 22, X Labs Project announced on their official Twitter account that they would be permanently shutting down all operations due to receiving a Cease and Desist letter from Activision.
X Labs Project was a client suite aimed at enhancing previous Call of Duty titles, including Advanced Warfare, Black Ops 3, Ghosts, and Modern Warfare 2. It involved years of hard work and introduced a variety of new or improved features that were not present in the base game.
Similarly, Call of Duty sm2, another popular client project that brought significant changes to weapons, maps, perks, and more, was also shut down by Activision through a Cease and Desist letter. This project had also been in development for years and recently posted a devblog on April 22.
Fans have expressed their disappointment with Activision’s actions on social media, with some suggesting a boycott of future Activision games. YouTuber M3RKMUS1C posted, “RIP XLabs….Activision will do this because they CAN. They don’t even need a good reason… I’m speechless…” Many people in the comments section shared similar sentiments.
What are your thoughts on Activision’s recent actions? Do you empathize with the upset fans, or do you believe the company’s actions are justified?
